June is Recreation & Parks Month: June 1-30

 

June has the longest days of the year and signals the beginning of summer. June is Recreation and Parks Month (JRPM) and we’re celebrating with 30 days of activities and events, for all ages and interests!

From acrylic painting and panda-drawing workshops, coding a LEGO® robot and going rollerblading to swimming and (so many!) sports, there's something fun for everyone! In honour of JRPM, residents are invited to attend a flag raising event will be held in the Courtyard at Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Drive) from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1.

Recreation program highlights include:

  • Summer-themed crafting workshop for children, as well as acrylic painting for adults (coffee and treats included!)
  • Family-friendly programs for parents and children to enjoy together: mindfulness, basketball, and badminton
  • A range of sports including archery, tennis, and badminton
  • Coding LEGO robots, computer programming, and creating Minecraft video games
  • Explore the vibrant world of Bollywood, sway to the infectious rhythms of Latin Beat, or enjoy the social fun of Modern Line Dancing!
  • Inclusion programs: Serenity Stretch Yoga (yoga and meditation), Board Game Bonanza, Nature’s Palette (outdoor art), bocce (sports) and Flavourful Fun (cooking)
  • Counselling sessions regarding behavioural analysis, managing challenging behaviour, and how to motivate your child/youth, delivered in partnership with York Support Services Network

$5 fitness classes (all proceeds will go towards RecAssist) including yoga, Zumba, spin, bootcamp, (for ages 13+) and muscle conditioning exercises will be offered on select days and times.

Donate to RecAssist Online 

All proceeds from June is Recreation & Parks Month programming will go towards RecAssist, the City's fee assistance program, which helps subsidize the cost of recreation programs and swim lessons for low-income individuals and families in Vaughan. Aren’t able to attend a program, but want to contribute? Donations to RecAssist can now be made online at vaughan.perfectmind.com in denominations of $5, $10 or $25.  Tax receipts will be provided for donations of $25 or more.


Make a difference in your community
RecAssist is the City’s fee assistance program, which helps subsidize the cost of recreation programs and swim lessons for low-income individuals and families in Vaughan. 100% of donations go towards recipients. Tax receipts will be issued via email for donations of $25 or more.
